Ukrainian forces in Gorny and Zoloty have held out almost since the start of a full-scale Russian invasion. Especially when in April the occupying troops began to actively attack the settlements in that direction.

Alexander Musiyenko, head of the Center for Military Legal Research, told Channel 24 about this.

He said that at first the Russian troops were moving to Popasnaya, then they could not take Gornoye and Zolote, because they “cracked their teeth.” There, the Ukrainian military held and gave a powerful rebuff to the enemy. They fought off a lot of assaults by Russian troops and they suffered heavy losses in these areas.

They (Ukrainian military – Channel 24) withdrew when Russia brought up additional reserves, and also overturned more extra strength. They realized that this is really necessary in order to avoid encirclement,” Alexander Musienko said.

“The Russian troops were leaving to the west of Toshkovka – there they were just trying to cut off the route to Lysichansk for the Ukrainian forces. And in general, the connection with those units that are in the Popasna area. So that our units from Gorny and Zolote could not normally withdraw,” – Musienko explained.

According to him, realizing all the risks, the right decision was made that our forces should withdraw in time. This is necessary in order not to get into the environment.

“As a result, we see that the Russian troops broke through there. They take control, including the road that leads to Lisichansk. However, the most important thing is that there is no” boiler “and the environment – this was avoided,” summed up Alexander Musienko.
