Russians fail to seize the initiative in Kursk region: ISW on changes in the situation on the front Irina Pundor

The fiercest fighting continues in the East of Ukraine. The epicenter of the clashes is Chasov Yar, Kurakhovo and Toretsk. In the Kursk region, the occupiers are unable to seize the initiative and advance.

ISW analysts reported on changes in the situation at the front, Channel 24 reports. The Russians are trying to advance in many directions, but there is no visual evidence of success.

Operation in the Kursk region

On January 3, Ukrainian and Russian troops continued military operations in the Ukrainian offensive in the Kursk region. Analysts have not found any confirmed changes on the front line. Therefore, the advance of the occupiers near Leonidovo and Alexandria remains exclusively in the reports of Russian military bloggers. However, even the mouthpieces of the occupiers admit that the Russian army cannot seize the initiative in the Kursk region.

Interesting! A Russian court recently ordered Yandex to remove or blur maps and photos of one of the largest Russian oil refineries due to Ukrainian drone strikes on the facility. This refers to the Ryazan Oil Refinery, which the Ukrainian Armed Forces have already struck quite a few times. This is the first such case of a court decision.

Kharkiv region

The occupiers continue to advance near Volchansk, however, they are unable to move the front line fails. The Ukrainians, meanwhile, attempted to counterattack at Liptsi. Russian sabotage and reconnaissance groups continue to operate under the cover of drones and artillery. At the same time, their level of training has significantly decreased.

Luhansk and Donetsk region

The enemy army continues its offensive on the line Kupyansk – Svatovo – Kremennaya. Despite reports of Russians approaching the village of Ivanovka, there is no visual evidence of this.

Ground attacks by the occupiers continued near:

  • Dvurechnaya;
  • near Lozovaya;
  • west of Svatovo near Nadezhda and Kruglyakovka;
  • northwest of Kremennaya near Makeyevka, Ternov;
  • in the Serebryanskoye area forests.

On January 2 and 3, Russian troops attacked within and near Chasovy Yar itself, as well as south of Chasovy Yar near Belaya Gora, Predtechinoye, and Stupochki. It is likely that Ukrainian troops advanced near the refractory plant in Chasovy Yar itself.

Russian troops advanced within Toretskand near the city. The commander of the Ukrainian mortar battery, which operated in the Toretsk direction, said that Russian troops are disguising themselves in civilian clothes to bypass Ukrainian forward positions. Also, the enemy is advancing mainly with infantry in bad weather conditions.

It is likely that Ukrainian troops have retreated from the Kurakhovskaya TPP. The Russians could have captured Shevchenko. There is no confirmation of other successes by the Russians yet. Fighting in Donetsk region/ISW map Luhansk region is the epicenter of the battles/ISW map

What's happening on South

On January 2 and 3, the occupiers tried to advance in the Dnieper direction, including in the area of Kazatsky Island (east of Kherson). Situation in Kherson direction/Map ISW
