Now the most difficult battles are going on in the Donbass. Donetsk and Luhansk regions are a zone of active hostilities where the enemy is trying to cordon off Ukrainian troops.
But the occupiers fail to encircle the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the Donbas. This was announced on the air of a single telethon by Deputy Defense Minister Anna Malyar.
She noted that the situation in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions is very difficult. The Ukrainian Armed Forces are on the defensive, but the fight is very serious.
Today, the South and East are an active war zone, and it is really very hot there today. Hotter today in the east is Donetsk, Lugansk region. Indeed, the situation is extremely difficult – Russian troops are trying to cordon off our troops. They haven't succeeded yet, but a very serious struggle is going on now,” Malyar said.
Occupiers want to seize not only Donbass
Anna Malyar reminded that Russia is interested not only in the geographical borders of the Donetsk and Lugansk regions, but also in the South of Ukraine. And the invaders are preparing for an offensive in that part of Ukraine.
Of course, they are preparing along the entire border line, where they can do it, and even along those lines where there are temporarily occupied territories. They also fire from those territories and deployed their air defense systems there. Therefore, the situation is rather complicated, but the Armed Forces of Ukraine are powerfully resisting, – added the Deputy Minister of Defense.
At the same time, she assured that Ukraine would certainly win. But we need to be patient and understand the difficult conditions the Ukrainian military is in.
The situation in the Donbas: briefly about the main thing
- President Volodymyr Zelensky said that the occupiers have 20 times more equipment in the Donbas than the Ukrainian military.
- Russia wants to take control of the entire territory of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions and has thrown all its forces into this direction. Russian invaders burn out, destroy everything in their path. Only during May 23, the Russian invaders shelled 38 settlements in the Donetsk and Lugansk regions, destroying and damaging 62 civilian objects.
- Over the past day, Ukrainian defenders and defenders from the JFO group repelled 16 enemy attacks in the East. Fights with the occupier continue at one more location.
- During the same time, the soldiers from the JFO destroyed 8 enemy tanks, 22 armored vehicles, 1 enemy vehicle in the Donbas.
- Meanwhile, in the sky of the Ukrainian Donbass, air defense forces shot down one Granat-type unmanned aerial vehicle and 6 Orlan-10 UAVs.
- At the same time, the occupiers are building up their air defense systems in the temporarily occupied Crimea.
