Russia is looking for weapons around the world to continue the war in Ukraine. However, regimes such as North Korea, which supplies the Russian army with the necessary ammunition, respond to its calls.

However, the quality of the shells from the DPRK very low. Ex-SBU officer Ivan Stupak spoke about this Channel 24, emphasizing that the occupiers from time to time complain that North Korean ammunition does not meet standards.

After a meeting between Vladimir Putin and Kim Jong-un in September 2023, the dictators came to an agreement on the supply of North Korean weapons to Russia. It is known that Pyongyang provided Moscow with about a million shells.

When the first shipments of weapons arrived from North Korea, the Russians heard victorious reports that these ammunition were of very high quality.

However, disappointment came later. Now they are complaining about these shells, saying that they explode in the guns, do not reach Ukrainian positions, it turns out that they were not produced according to the technology,” noted the ex-SBU employee.

At the same time, according to him, it is unknown what proportion of defective units per million shells that Russia receives from North Korea, because along with critical reviews of these ammunition, there are positive ones.

< p>“Pyongyang probably provided the Russians with high-quality ammunition in the first batch, and then began to mix, adding to normal ammunition, those that were manufactured in the 1960s or even in the 1950s. Obviously, some Russians can read in Korean,” he emphasized. Ivan Stupak.

What is known about the ammunition that the DPRK provides to the occupiers

  • The General Staff reported that the Russians, using North Korean ammunition, have big problems due to the low quality of these weapons. In particular, situations were recorded when these shells exploded directly in the barrels of guns and mortars.
  • As a result, not only weapons, but also enemy personnel were lost. Such cases occurred, in particular, in the Dnepr group of troops under the command of Mikhail Teplinsky.
  • The occupiers also complained that ammunition from the DPRK did not match the firing tables for Russian weapons. In addition, North Korean shells do not fire accurately. Therefore, the Russian military has developed new shooting tables to provide them to the front line. This should supposedly help enemy artillerymen understand how best to use weapons from the DPRK.
