Russians are spreading a fake about the alleged Ukrainian origin of Andrzej Duda/Verkhovna Rada

There is hysteria in Russian propaganda after the visit of Polish President Andrzej Duda to Ukraine. Therefore, the propagandists decided to dig up an old fake about the alleged Ukrainian origin of the Polish leader.

Russian propaganda is spreading a fake that Andrzej Duda is the grandson of a Ukrainian nationalist. We are talking about Mikhail Duda, the commander of the Ukrainian Insurgent Army, who fought against the Poles and participated in the events in Volyn in 1943.

Duda has already refuted this fake

Russian propagandists claim that Mikhail Duda “raised his grandson in the spirit of Nazism” and that is why he now supports “Ukrainian neo-Nazis.” This is how it burns in Russia because of Poland's support for Ukraine.

The Center for Counteracting Disinformation emphasized that this is a fake. Andrzej Duda himself refuted this fiction 7 years ago.

The fact is that Mikhail Duda could not be the grandfather of the Polish president. If only because he died in 1950 without children. Andrzej Duda's grandfather Alois Duda lived in Stary Sącz and died in 1992.

Another wave of disinformation is due to the visit of the head of the Polish state to Kyiv and is aimed at discrediting the Ukrainian-Polish friendly relations, – the Center for Counteracting Disinformation noted.

Andrzej Duda's visit to Ukraine: the main thing

  • Polish President Andrzej Duda arrived on an official visit to Kyiv on May 22. The Polish leader delivered a powerful speech to the deputies in the Verkhovna Rada and assured that relations between Ukraine and Poland would be stronger. Separately, Duda emphasized that the Ukrainians who left their home and moved to Poland, fleeing the war, are not refugees, but guests.
  • President Volodymyr Zelensky also came to listen to the speech of his Polish colleague. After that, he also spoke in parliament and stressed that neither foreign agents nor the jury at Eurovision would interfere with the unity of Ukraine and Poland, because after 0 points from Ukrainian judges for Poland, a real scandal erupted at Eurovision. In addition, the head of state announced the submission to the Verkhovna Rada of a bill on the legal status of Poles in Ukraine. This law should be completely identical to the one that the Polish Sejm adopted in relation to the Ukrainians.
  • Duda also noted that Poland provided Ukraine with weapons worth 2 billion dollars. We are talking about tanks, armored personnel carriers, air defense and military ammunition. Duda added that they provide assistance to Ukraine and are not afraid of Russian threats.
  • The Polish leader also mentioned Russia. He emphasized that this state entity should become an outcast in the international arena. Like, after Bucha, Borodianka and Mariupol “there can be no cases that were before.”
  • In addition, Duda announced a new agreement on good neighborliness, which Poland and Ukraine can sign very soon. Possible dates include January 2023, during the 160th anniversary of the January Uprising against the Russian Empire, in which both Poles and Ukrainians took part.
