Back in June, Kirill Budanov predicted that a turning point in the war would occur in August. On August 24, the head of intelligence answered the question of journalists whether this really happened.
Budanov said that the turning point had come. At the same time, he was intrigued by the words that August had not yet ended.
“Cotton” in Crimea began in August
The head of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense noted that it was in August that explosions began in Crimea. Before that, it was calm on the peninsula, and these “pops” became a turning point in the war. After all, they struck at the understanding of the Russians. The citizens of the aggressor state realized that in fact their army is not as strong as they imagined, and the publicized air defense system is not working so successfully.
The enemy is really not capable of preserving the captured Ukrainian territory. The people who came from Russia to Crimea and felt like masters there finally realized that there was a war going on and they too could suffer from it.
The turning point has already begun, after all, the Russians realized that the war was not somewhere in the other part of the world, but with them, – the Major General explained.
He added that Russia had very much slowed down the pace of the offensive. Reasons for this 2:
- depletion of resources;
- moral and psychological fatigue
What Budanov said in June
On June 25, the country's chief intelligence officer said that from August 2022 “events will take place that will show the whole world the beginning of a turning point.”
At the same time, he noted that Ukraine will return to the borders of 1991, and by the end of the year active fighting will drop to almost zero. Budanov assured that the Armed Forces of Ukraine will return control over our territories “in the foreseeable future.”
