What we see with Russian tanks is a design flaw. Any successful strike quickly ignites the ammunition, causing a powerful explosion, and the tower literally breaks down, said Sam Bendett, a specialist at the Center for a New American Security.
At the same time, the crew of the tank – 2 fighters in the turret and 1 at the wheel – may die. In order to escape, they have a second.
This defect attracted the attention of the Western military a few decades ago – during the Gulf War. Then they saw that all the towers of Russian tanks were shot down by anti-tank missiles.
Russian equipment as a “mobile coffin”
Almost all armored vehicles used by Russia in Ukraine have such a defect.< /p>
- The BMD-4 infantry fighting vehicle is a “mobile coffin” that is easy to destroy when hit by a missile;
- T-90 and T-72 have been modernized, but the missile loading system has remained similar . Therefore, tanks are also vulnerable;
- The T-80 also has a similar missile loading system.
Bendet noted that this configuration has one advantage and that is why Russia used it . It's about saving space. After all, the tank is smaller, and therefore more difficult to hit.
By the way, Bendet believes that Russia has already lost 580 tanks in Ukraine.
