Russian troops in Syria — what is happening now
— The remnants of the Russian military contingent from the most remote regions of Syria are being taken to the naval and air bases in Tartus and Khmeimim.
Those Russians who have reached the evacuation sites usually drink and loot while waiting for their flight. Between Khmeimim and Russian airfields, 4-5 military transport planes fly daily, — Ukrainian intelligence indicates.
The GUR also noted that the Russian Navy ships Ivan Gren and Alexander Otrakovsky are being used to transport weapons and military equipment from Syria to the base in Tartus.
Now watching
— They are currently in the Norwegian Sea, and are scheduled to pass through the English Channel in a few days, the GUR added.
The Russian ship Sparta is currently moving toward the Syrian port. It will be used to transport military equipment from the Arab Republic.
The fall of the Assad regime in Syria — how it affected the Russian Federation
On November 27, Syrian rebels began an offensive against the Syrian Arab Army in Aleppo, while in the south of Syria, in the city of Daara, the local opposition began an offensive.
After 12 days, opponents of dictator Bashar al-Assad occupied the capital — Damascus, and he and his family urgently flew to Moscow to seek asylum.
As a result of the fall of the regime, Russian troops, which had been involved in military operations in its defense since 2015, lost control of the northeastern part of the country.
President Volodymyr Zelensky responded to the events in Syria and explained that Assad's dictatorship was crushed because Russia switched its main focus from protecting its ally to seizing Ukrainian territory.
