The Russian telecommunications satellite Express-80, which was launched in July from the Baikonur cosmodrome, was damaged. This was reported by RIA Novosti with reference to sources in the rocket and space industry.
According to the interlocutor of the agency, space debris could get into the satellite. Another source noted that the engine remained intact, and the device continues to be brought to the operating point. He also added that it will be possible to talk about the consequences of the accident when the satellite is at its operating point.
The Express-80 satellite is designed for fixed and mobile communications, digital TV and radio broadcasting, high-speed Internet access and data transmission in Russia.
