The trial of 57-year-old Alexander Shiplyuk, director of the Institute of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, doctor of physical and mathematical sciences, who spent ten years designing hypersonic missiles, has ended in the Russian capital. The scientist was sentenced to 15 years in a maximum security penal colony, as he was found guilty of treason.

This was reported by the Russian “Interfax”, writes “Unian”.

Shiplyuk must serve time for what happened 7 years ago. He researched and developed hypersonic technologies.

Shiplyuk was accused of treason under Art. 275 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, in particular, in the transfer of classified data in 2017 during a scientific conference in China.

The scientist's son Mikhail said that his father does not admit guilt.

“He and the lawyer fought to the last,” added the relative of the convicted man.

Alexander Shiplyuk became the fourth Russian weapons developer to be punished with imprisonment in a penal colony.
