Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Syrsky said that the Russians are much better provided with resources. They have more of everything: tanks, infantry fighting vehicles, soldiers. However, the occupiers have even more losses.
He said this in an interview with The Guardian.
Russia's advantages at the front in equipment
According to him, at the beginning of the full-scale invasion, the Russians had a 100,000-strong army, which by the end of 2024 their number should reach 690,000 people. At the same time, Ukraine does not publish its figures.

Since 2022, the number of Russian tanks has doubled — from 1,700 to 3,500 units. Artillery systems tripled, and the number of armored personnel carriers increased from 4,500 to 8,900 units.
— As for technology, the ratio is 1:2 or 1:3 in their (Russians, – Ed.) favor. The enemy has a significant advantage in forces and means. Therefore, for us, the issue of supply, the issue of quality (of equipment, – Ed.) is really in the foreground,” said Syrsky.
It is precisely this advantage of Russia in people and equipment that affects the battlefield, the publication notes.
In February 2024, Syrsky became commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, replacing Valery Zaluzhny. One of Syrsky's first orders was the withdrawal of troops from Avdeevka. The retreat coincided with a six-month pause in US arms supplies.
Ukraine has recently begun to receive assistance from partners, but the occupiers continue to mercilessly bombard the Ukrainian east using guided bombs.
Syrsky is confident that the Ukrainians can stop the Russian offensive and here everything depends on our soldiers and officers.
Russian losses in the war
Russia has successes at the front at the cost of stunning human losses. According to Alexander Syrsky, the losses of the invaders are three times higher than the losses of Ukraine, and in some directions — even more.
— Their death toll is much higher,” the commander-in-chief emphasized.
In February 2024, President Volodymyr Zelensky said that 31,000 Ukrainian military personnel had died since 2022. Syrsky refused to specify this figure, noting that this topic is sensitive and Moscow can use it in its propaganda.
According to Syrsky, Russian commanders sacrifice huge numbers of infantry to gain 100-200 meters of territory. And for Ukraine it is very important to save the lives of its soldiers.
— We do not defend ruins to the death,” said Syrsky, emphasizing that he does not want to achieve goals at any cost or throw his people into meaningless meat assaults.
In his opinion, sometimes it is better to move to more advantageous positions.
