Details of the incident

The helicopter crossed the Russian air border with Estonia and stayed in the country's airspace for almost one minute.

The helicopter did not have a flight plan, the transponder was turned off. The helicopter also had two-way radio communication with the Estonian air traffic service.

This is already the third violation of Estonian airspace in a year

This was the third violation of Estonian airspace in 2022. And last year, aircraft of the Russian Federation violated Estonian airspace five times.

Estonia summons the Russian ambassador

Today, on August 10, the Foreign Ministry summoned the Russian ambassador to Estonia to protest and hand over a note on violation of the air border. The Estonian authorities stressed that this is unacceptable.

At the meeting, the Foreign Ministry once again strongly condemned Russia's aggression in Ukraine. We also stressed that Russia must respect the principles of national sovereignty, territorial integrity and international law,” the department noted.

By the way, on August 1, German, Hungarian and Italian fighters began patrolling the airspace over the Baltic region. For this, about a dozen aircraft and about 80 military personnel were allocated.
