Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich lost his lawsuit to overturn EU sanctions imposed on him following Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
This is reported by Reuters.
The court took into account Abramovich's role in the Russian steel company Evraz and the fact that steel is the main source of income for the Russian government.

— The court of general jurisdiction rejects the claim filed by Mr. Abramovich, thereby upholding the restrictive measures taken against him, — says the court decision.
The EU Council noted that it was not mistaken in its assessment, deciding to leave Abramovich on the sanctions list.
Abramovic, who also has Israeli citizenship and is the former owner of Premier League club Chelsea, became one of the world's most powerful businessmen after the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991. Forbes estimates his fortune at $9.2 billion.
In February 2022, the EU imposed sanctions against Russian officials and a number of Russian businessmen, such as Abramovich, and also froze hundreds of billions of dollars in Russian assets. Abramovich tried to appeal this decision in court.
