Russian authorities have completely concealed key demographic indicators, including population, births, deaths, marriages and divorces, a Russian opposition media outlet reports.
Rosstat does not have a Demography section
On July 2, Rosstat published its latest statistical bulletin, but it completely lacks one of the key sections – Demography.
As a leading Russian demographer, who wished to remain anonymous, noted, the Russian authorities have removed almost all data related to the population, leaving only two secondary indicators.

In particular, the following basic demographic data became classified:
- number of permanent population;
- number of births;
- number of deaths;
- number of marriages and divorces;
- number of immigrants, etc.
Information on birth rates, death rates, marriages and divorces disappeared from public access some time ago.
But now even in official statistical collections there are only two indicators left:
- total fertility rate by region;
- total rate of birth of third and subsequent children.
- This happened against the backdrop of extremely heavy losses of the Russian army in a full-scale war.
Over the past 24 hours, the Ukrainian Defense Forces have eliminated about 1,050 Russian servicemen, the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces reported.
As of the 1,228th day of the full-scale invasion, the total losses of the Russian army reached approximately 1,025,260 people – killed and wounded.
