At Sheremetyevo, 171 flights had been cancelled as of this evening, and another 56 flights were delayed by two hours or more.
The situation at Pulkovo was no less difficult: as of 18:00, 90 flights had been cancelled, 37 departures were delayed by more than two hours. In addition to Pulkovo, airports in Pskov, Kaluga and Kirov suspended their operations.
According to Rosaviatsia, as of 18:00, 15 thousand passengers had completed pre-flight procedures and were preparing for departure.
“The situation is under control, the Russian air transport system copes with periodic interference in its work from outside. Airline companies have sufficient resources to operate in the current conditions,” the department said in a statement.
Let us recall that on July 5, Russian airports experienced a serious collapse. Due to the threat of drone attacks in Moscow and St. Petersburg, almost 100 flights were cancelled, and several hundred were rescheduled. This caused a significant crush at the airports: passengers were forced to sit or even lie on the floor.
Many passengers were kept off the planes for hours after they landed.
Rosaviatsia announced the cancellation of 174 flights to Sheremetyevo, citing strong winds and an air threat due to a possible drone attack.
