Russia Will Hit the Other Cheek: Sibiga Criticizes Slovakia's Call to Forgive Russia

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha responded to the statement of his Slovak counterpart Juraj Blanar about the need to forgive Russia for what happened in the context of the war.

The minister published a corresponding post on the social network X.

“Russia's sense of impunity is the root cause of its crimes. It is naive to expect that a criminal will stop committing crimes if he is forgiven rather than punished. Russia will hit on the other cheek, too,” the Ukrainian minister said.

The head of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry also noted that those who have not lost anyone in this war have no right to make such statements.

Earlier, Blanar expressed the opinion that resolving a full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine requires establishing communication with Russia.

The head of the Slovak Foreign Ministry said that the West must find a way to cooperate with Russia or even forgive everything that happened.

It is worth noting that the position of the Slovak minister contrasts with the official line of most EU and NATO member states, which insist on holding Russia accountable for war crimes and aggression against Ukraine.

Let us recall that the NATO summit in The Hague officially recognized Russia as a long-term threat to Euro-Atlantic security.
