Russia will go for a ceasefire only one step away from defeat, – Kuleba

Kuleba told when Russia will lay down its arms and cease fire/Collage of Channel 24

Dmytro Kuleba noted that now Russia has directed all its efforts to the war against Ukraine. Therefore, she will cease fire only on the condition that she is as close as possible to defeat.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs spoke about this during a briefing at the World Economic Forum in Davos. Dmitry Kuleba also explained for what purpose the Russian side would be ready to cease fire on our state.

The ceasefire will save Russia from defeat

The Minister of Foreign Affairs noted that a ceasefire is necessary. And no one will argue with this fact, but there is one “but”…

But I give you 100% that if Russia agrees to a ceasefire, this will be the moment when she will be one step away from losing the war. And they will agree to a ceasefire in order to save themselves from defeat in the war. Until then, the war will continue,” Kuleba stressed.

Dmitry Kuleba noted that official Kyiv is for the diplomatic end of the war unleashed by Russia. But it should be understood that the rhetoric of the aggressor country, as well as its actions, clearly indicate that it is not interested in negotiations. Now in the Kremlin, the entire emphasis is shifted precisely to the conduct of the war.

The day before, the minister named three key issues on which our state will not make concessions. We are talking about:

  • the territorial integrity of Ukraine;
  • complete withdrawal of the Russian military from the territory of our state;
  • determination of foreign policy by the people of Ukraine, and not by the Russian side.

He noted that our state will not accept any “Russian ultimatums.” Moreover, it will defend its interests even under the conditions when half the world will attack us.

For now, there can be no talk of negotiations with Russia

The day before, Volodymyr Zelenskyy spoke at the Ukrainian breakfast as part of the Davos Forum. In his speech, the President of Ukraine stressed that the war would still end with negotiations. But the question remains open: “Which Russian president will they negotiate with?”

Earlier, in an interview with the Japanese edition of NHK, Zelensky called the condition under which he would sit down at the negotiating table. He stressed that it will be possible to talk about this only if our territories seized after February 24 will be liberated from the occupation.

Aleksey Arestovich said what they would do with the Donbass if the negotiations failed. The adviser to the head of the President's Office stressed that then we would have to take our territories from the aggressor country by military means. But this, he added, will cause many Ukrainian casualties.

On May 17, adviser to the head of the President's Office Mikhail Podolyak announced the suspension of the negotiation process with Russia. He noted that this is a forced step for our state. And they went for it only because in Russia they are looking for Nazism in the wrong place, because the aggressor country itself is its source.
