Russia used the beacons of foreign journalists to track the location of Western weapons – Malyar

Due to hostile activities, foreign journalists in Russia could track the movement of Western weapons.

Former Deputy Minister of Defense of Ukraine Anna Malyar spoke about this in an interview with Liga.net.

Malyar points out that during the Russian-Ukrainian war there were cases when intelligence officers came to the front line and learned where equipment or weapons were located from Ukraine’s Western partners.

“We have cases where enemies, using the beacon of the journalist himself (we had this with foreigners), tracked the location of foreign weapons… They get to the front, not only to make a story, but intelligence officers also get there,” she says.

With this, the ex-Deputy Minister of Defense, in particular, explains the rules by which journalists are allowed to the front line.

She adds that such journalists were checked, in particular, by both the National Police of Ukraine and the Security Service of Ukraine.

Malyar emphasized that the interests of the military are more important than the efficiency of journalists and the media.

“We need to put on the scales what is more important to us now.” For this settlement to be liberated, or for it to be on the news right now and they wouldn’t liberate it… Do we need the state or the news? “If the news comes out three days after what happened there, nothing will happen to any of us.” This is the logic of the military,” she says.

Let us recall that Anna Malyar was Deputy Defense Minister Alexei Reznikov from the beginning of Russia’s full-scale war against Ukraine until the beginning of September 2023, when Reznikov was replaced in this position by Rustem Umerov.

Subsequently, it became known that the writer Illarion Pavlyuk will occupy the position of head of the Press and Information Department of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, which was previously subordinate to Anna Malyar.
