Russia told the UN about Ukraine's strangulation of the Crimean population

Russia considers the water blockade of Crimea by Ukraine to strangle the population of the region. Representative of Moscow Yaroslav Eremin stated this in a speech at the session of the UN Human Rights Council, TASS reports.

“We ask you to pay close attention to the water blockade of Crimea. The actions of Ukraine, aimed literally at strangling the population of the peninsula (…) are aimed at destroying human rights, but they also contradict the elementary concepts of a person, his dignity and rights, ”Eremin said.

Earlier, the Ukrainian Ministry for the Reintegration of the Temporarily Occupied Territories called a condition for the resumption of water supply to Crimea. As the deputy head of the department Igor Yaremenko specified, Ukraine will be ready to supply water to the peninsula after it returns to the country. According to him, scientific research confirms that there is more than enough drinking water for the population in Crimea.

Crimea has been in a water blockade by Ukraine since 2014. Many of the peninsula's reservoirs became shallow in early 2020, which is considered one of the driest in the past 150 years.
