Russia is ready to help rebuild Syria: Bloomberg responded that Moscow asks in return Margarita Voloshina

Russia is ready to help Syria in its recovery in order to conclude an agreement with the new government. In this way, Moscow seeks to maintain its military presence in the country.

We are talking about maintaining two key military bases in order to maintain influence after the overthrow of Bashar al-Assad's regime. This was reported by 24 Channel with reference to Bloomberg.

What Russia wants to get from the Syrian authorities

As the publication writes, the loss of the naval port in Tartus and the airbase in Khmeimim could be a serious strategic blow to Moscow, since these facilities allowed it to control the situation in the Middle East and Africa.

Therefore, senior adviser to the Russian government Vitaly Naumkin spoke about the “compromise” that the countries are now looking for.

Russia is ready to support the restoration of the Syrian economy. We will be able to reach a compromise, and the new government in Damascus will benefit from cooperation with Moscow, in particular on military supplies, Bloomberg quotes the Russian as saying.

Against this background, a Russian delegation headed by the special representative of Russian dictator Vladimir Putin, Mikhail Bogdanov, went to Damascus for talks with the new leadership of Syria.

But representatives of the Syrian government are demanding concrete steps from Russia, in particular compensation, reconstruction and restoration of the country. And although negotiations on preserving Russian bases have not yet brought significant progress, consultations are ongoing.

Bloomberg writes that Syria is in a difficult financial situation due to significant debts accumulated during Assad's rule. The country's Foreign Minister Assad al-Shaibani said that Damascus owes Moscow $8 billion.
