In Russia, the magazine “Politruk” was published for army training. The Russian Ministry of Defense wants to contribute to the political education of its military personnel.

Already from the introductory article it is clear that “Politruk” is a legacy of Soviet military publications. It was written by the head of the so-called Main Political Directorate of Russia, Colonel General Viktor Goremykin.

Stalin is quoted in the magazine

British intelligence writes that the Main Political Directorate in Russia was created in 2018. Even then, Russians believed that it was necessary to restore political education in the armed forces. The already mentioned Deputy Minister of Defense Viktor Goremykin was appointed head of this department.

In his introductory article to “Politruk,” he quotes Stalin about the importance of the political education of soldiers and the need to mortally hate the enemy.

The magazine talks about the absurd ideas of Russia, that supposedly in Ukraine today the enemy is the same as the enemy of the USSR, namely the Nazis.

Published in magazine, a map of Ukraine is used to confirm arguments questioning the authenticity of Ukrainian statehood, and therefore to justify the invasion, writes the British Ministry of Defense.

They also add that the magazine reflects “politicized use of history,” and this is a noticeable feature of Russian educational policy in recent years and, especially, after the invasion of Ukraine. Thus, Russia continues to spread false narratives, which it uses to influence its army and the country's civilian population.

Ukraine continues to fight the Russian propaganda

  • Russian narratives were recently found on the pages of the British encyclopedia “History: The Definitive Visual Guide”. This book was published by the large publishing house Dorling Kindersley already in 2023, that is, after Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
  • The encyclopedia contains a number of distorted facts. Thus, the authors of the book connected the history of Kievan Rus with Russian history. There are no facts in the encyclopedia about the Holodomor as a planned genocide of the Ukrainian people. The British also consider Ukraine “the second largest country in Europe” after Russia, and they call the war in Ukraine a “special operation”. They, together with Ukrainian historians, proved to the DK publishing house that the facts about Ukraine in their book were wrong. After this, the conclusions of scientific examinations will be transferred to the publisher with a requirement to correct errors.
