Russia plans to increase production of 152mm Krasnopol-M2 laser-guided artillery ammunition and improve its performance in bad weather conditions.
This is stated in the intelligence report of the British Ministry of Defense on November 14.
According to her, the occupation forces use these ammunition “to accurately destroy individual Ukrainian vehicles.”

At the same time, it is noted that the Russian military-industrial complex is not able to provide a sufficient amount of conventional ammunition, so the planned increase in the production volumes of Krasnopol shells is likely an attempt by the Russian Federation to use production capacity more efficiently.
— Russia uses UAVs to designate targets for Krasnopol by directing a laser beam at the target. However, low cloud cover was a key limiting factor in the missile's effectiveness, as its laser detector did not have time to detect the laser energy and maneuver to strike, intelligence officials said.
Therefore, the Russians will try to improve the flight characteristics of Krasnopol and reduce the laser target detection time.
“As winter approaches, Russia’s access to more precision-guided munitions is likely to become one of the key factors in its operational effectiveness in the war in Ukraine,” the British concluded.
Krasnopol – adjustable artillery ammunition of 152 or 155 mm caliber. Designed to hit armored targets and military installations with the first shot. The correction is performed by the aerodynamic control surfaces at the final stage of the flight according to the laser mark on the target. To increase the maximum distance, the projectile has a jet engine or a bottom gas generator. Developed aerodynamic surfaces provide planning to the target, thereby increasing the distance and reducing restrictions on cloud height.
