Russia is testing Germany's reaction by blackmailing with gas – Omelchenko

Russia is trying to blackmail Europe with gas/collage Channel 24 the resources it has as a means of potential blackmail or terror, this includes energy resources. Ukraine felt this very well at one time, now the EU, in particular Germany, is beginning to feel it.

Vladimir Omelchenko, director of energy programs at the Razumkov Center, told Channel 24 about this. He also noted that a unique situation is emerging today, when natural gas supplies from Russia are at a record low level.

“All that works as of today is the Turkish stream and partly the Ukrainian gas transmission system. All other routes supplies have stopped and Russia is testing Germany's reaction, how they will react to the shutdown,” Omelchenko notes.

Why Russia needs this:

  • gas blackmail – heat in exchange for lifting of sanctions.
  • waiver of sanctions and assistance from European countries in the conclusion of Minsk-3.

According to the expert, the energy and gas levers play a decisive role in Russia's plans. We should not have any illusions about the Kremlin.

The Germans might think that the problem is in the turbine. But every word from the Kremlin is an element of a special operation, says Omelchenko.

Russia stopped the transportation of gas through the Nord Stream

On July 10, Canada agreed to transfer a Siemens turbine to Germany in order to resume the operation of the Russian gas pipeline “Severny flow”. They say that the German economy is suffering from a lack of necessary gas supplies.

In Ukraine, they condemned this decision, calling it a bad precedent for exemption from sanctions. Serhiy Makogon, General Director of the GTS Operator of Ukraine, is convinced that Canada has come under pressure . The fact is that the Russian “Gazprom” has every opportunity to transport enough gas to Europe, but does not do this for the sake of blackmail.
