The year 2024 will be important in the context of the war in Ukraine. Various states will try to persuade Kyiv to negotiate. The main thing here is not to agree to Russia’s conditions.

Ukrainian Armed Forces officer Taras Berezovets told Channel 24 about this, noting that Putin is now an aging leader of the “Brezhnev” age, who is trying to convince everyone that he supposedly still has strength and energy.

Putin is still trying to persuade Ukraine to negotiate

As Berezovets noted, there are no signs that the war may end in the near future. At the same time, Putin constantly accuses Ukraine of not wanting to negotiate. This could be heard during his speech at the G20 summit.

Russia is sending signals, especially strengthened after the Biden-Xi meeting in San Francisco. Recently, the only independent sociological structure in Russia, Levada Center, provided data according to which more than 70% of Russians are in favor of starting peace negotiations with Ukraine. “Putin also has this data,” Berezovets said.

It is indisputable that next year various states will continue to put strong pressure on Kyiv so that they are inclined to negotiate with Russia. However, Putin wants to complete everything only on his own terms. And they are unacceptable for Ukraine.

Putin wants to triumph as a winner. He wants recognition of the occupied territories as part of Russia, the Russian language as the second state language, demilitarization, federalization, and so on. It is impossible to sign a peace treaty under such conditions,” Berezovets said.

The situation in Russia: briefly

  • The head of the Foreign Intelligence Service of Ukraine, Alexander Litvinenko, spoke in his column about Russia’s plans by 2028. They want to restore the military power they lost during the full-scale war.
  • Vladimir Putin recently took part in the G20 summit, which was held online. There, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz called on him to stop the war against Ukraine.
  • The OP reacted to Putin’s appearance at the G20. Mikhail Podolyak emphasized that Putin is once again trying to distort reality.
