The Georgian authorities are afraid of their population and will seek protection from the Kremlin.
Russia may introduce its troops into Georgia at the request of the current Georgian authorities if protests in the country begin with a new by force.
This opinion was expressed on air by Espresso Vladimir Kopchak, head of the South Caucasus branch of the Center for Conversion and Disarmament Army Studies.
He stated that if Bidzina Ivanishvili comes to power in Georgia, then in all likelihood, he will ask the Kremlin to introduce troops to suppress possible mass protests.
“On the other hand, various speakers from Moscow are trying to strengthen the paradigm of the authorities in Georgia. They say that if a corresponding request comes from Tbilisi, then they can introduce troops. That is, if there is a coup d'etat in Georgia, then they will definitely intervene. In fact, this is a strengthening of the thesis of the Georgian authorities that if they remain in charge of the state, there will be peace, but if they are not there, there will definitely be war,” Kopchak explained.
The expert noted that in Georgia, the population does not support the actions of the current government in foreign policy, in particular the turn towards Moscow.
“They will maintain this framework until the end. However, the Georgians themselves clearly do not support this position. Georgians are a very irrational society. They reacted to the law on foreign agents, but did not react to other cases, which, in my opinion, were more “hot”. As soon as there was a whiff of the abolition of the visa-free regime and the fact that the law on foreign agents is Russian, 200 thousand people took to the streets. If these people are somehow accumulated and directed, then the result will be unambiguous,” he added.
Recall that it was previously reported that Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council of the Russian Federation Andrei Klimov stated that Russia is ready to introduce its troops into Georgia to suppress possible protests and help the Georgian Dream party retain power.
In addition, we previously reported that in Georgia they announced the preparation of an assassination attempt on Ivanishvili and “dragged” Ukraine into it.
