Russian filtration programs are a violation of the Geneva Conventions. This was stated by US Ambassador at Large for Global Criminal Justice Beth Van Skaak.
During a press conference in Toronto, she also noted that the mass deportation of Ukrainian children has become a terrible phenomenon.
— There is information about the involvement of Belarus in the abduction of children. Children from Ukraine are taken through the occupied territories to Russia, and further to Belarus. There are some pretty creepy non-state organizations involved, like far-right biker communities,” Van Skaak said.
She emphasized that the United States is unwavering in its support for Ukraine and the pursuit of justice, even against the backdrop of other conflicts in the world, but justice requires long-term efforts.

Van Skaak added that the United States is looking for mechanisms, including:
- organization of a tribunal for the crime of aggression;
- prosecution of criminals in international institutions;
- prosecution for international crimes in the courts of other countries.
But the main path to justice, according to her, lies through the Ukrainian courts. She noted that in Ukraine justice works even during war.
Earlier, State Department spokesman Matthew Miller said that children taken from Russian-occupied Ukrainian territories to Belarus remain very vulnerable to human trafficking.
According to him, the United States does not yet know whether Ukrainian children continue to be “exploited somehow,” however, the government is carefully monitoring developments.
