The Russian Federation has overtaken the United States of America in terms of gas supplies to Europe for the first time since 2022.
Gas supplies to Europe
According to The Financial Times, in May 2024, supplies of Russian and liquefied natural gas via pipelines accounted for 15% of total supplies to the EU and other European countries.
Gas supplies from the United States accounted for about 14%. The US has been Europe's largest gas supplier since 2022, overtaking Russia after European countries began to reject Russian gas following the full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

The publication says that the increase in gas supplies from the Russian Federation was influenced, in particular, by interruptions at a large LNG export facility in the USA.
Then the Russian Federation managed to supply more gas to Europe through Turkey before the gas pipeline repairs planned for June.
According to one of the experts, this advantage of the Russian Federation is unlikely to last long, which will be influenced by a number of factors.
Among them — Russia's ability to switch its own exports to Asia through the northern sea route in the summer.
According to experts, this will help reduce the volume of Russian supplies to Europe, while the production of American liquefied natural gas will increase again.
