Lithuania has stopped the transit of sanctioned cargo to the Kaliningrad region, which is why it received threats from Russia. The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry stood up in defense of Lithuanian friends and stated that Russia itself is to blame for the consequences of the invasion of our country.
Ukraine supports Lithuania's principled position
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba decided to support Lithuania. He stressed that the Kremlin has no right to threaten Lithuania.
According to Kuleba, Russia itself is to blame for the consequences of its unjustified invasion of Ukraine. The Minister noted that Ukraine supports the principled position of Lithuania on the ban on the transportation of goods to the Kaliningrad region.
Russia has no right to threaten Lithuania. Only Moscow is responsible for the consequences of its unprovoked and unjustified invasion of Ukraine. We welcome the principled position of Lithuania and firmly support our Lithuanian friends. – Kuleba wrote on social networks.
Lithuania has stopped the transit of sanctioned goods: what is known
- The Lithuanian Railway has stopped the transit of a number of Russian goods to Kaliningrad that fell under the sanctions of the European Union. The decision was announced by the governor of the Kaliningrad region Anton Alikhanov.
- Almost 50% of all cargo delivered from Russian regions has been banned by the EU.
- The Kaliningrad region is a Russian enclave bordering Lithuania and Poland. Russia does not have borders with the Kaliningrad region, which is why rail communication is carried out through the territory of Lithuania.
- Due to the ban on transit by rail, Russians will have to deliver goods across the Baltic Sea.
- As expected, hysteria began in Russia because of Lithuania's principled decision. First, the governor of the Kaliningrad region, Anton Alikhanov, said that Lithuania allegedly grossly violated the rules for joining the EU.
- After that, Dmitry Peskov, the speaker of Vladimir Putin, made a statement. He said that “this is a violation of everyone and everything” and called Lithuania's actions illegal.
- The head of the Federation Council Commission for the Protection of Sovereignty Andrey Klimov was sharper in words. He threatened the European Union and Lithuania that Russia “will decide hands to resolve the issue of transit by any means.”
