Snyder is convinced that Putin wants to starve the world/Channel 24 Collage
Historian Timothy Snyder noted that the Kremlin has a famine plan. And they are trying to implement it. And what is happening in Ukraine now is one of the stages in the implementation of a terrible plan.
A well-known historian and author of the book “Bloody Lands: Europe between Hitler and Stalin” shared the corresponding opinion on his Twitter . He is convinced that Putin seeks to starve a number of countries.
Putin will starve developing countries
According to Timothy Snyder, the Russian president has already set himself another goal in the new stage of the war unleashed in Ukraine. And it concerns not only the destruction and theft of crops in our state. The dictator thinks on a larger scale, trying to deprive some of the developing countries of the world of food.
He emphasizes that in peacetime, Ukraine was one of the leading exporters of products. But, unfortunately, military aggression changed everything radically. The invaders blocked the ports, which makes it impossible to export grain from our state. And if this continues, the damage will be colossal.
The historian assures that tens of millions of tons of food can simply rot in storage. And this will cause people to starve in both Africa and Asia.
At the same time, he noted that the scale is so colossal that it is difficult to imagine. Moreover, we all tend to forget that food has a great influence on the progress of politics. And for this, he decided to recall a few historical examples.
This is not the first time that control over Ukrainian grain is changing the world
And here we return to the figures that Timothy Snyder wrote about in the book that we mentioned above. We are talking about Adolf Hitler and Joseph Stalin. The latter at one time used the Ukrainian black soil to build the industrial economy of the USSR. It was this step that caused the death of millions of Ukrainians.
It is noteworthy that as people began to die en masse, Stalin blamed the Ukrainians themselves. Soviet propaganda called those who paid attention to the famine fascists, Snyder emphasized.
He added that real Nazis really had such ideas. They also wanted to control agriculture in Ukraine. Moreover, the historian is convinced, this was Hitler's main military goal. He sought to take all the grain to Germany, to starve the inhabitants of the USSR.
So, Snyder believes, the Second World War was fought for Ukraine and mainly on its territory. And it was not just because two dictators wanted to win the opportunity to fully control food supplies.
And the current situation is nothing new. We remind you that history is a cyclic thing. The distortion of facts makes it easy and effective to manipulate. For example, the Russians have long been convinced that the Holodomor in Ukraine was just an accident, and that the Ukrainians themselves are Nazis. So all this together allows the Russians to consider the theft acceptable.
Putin's “hunger” plan has 3 levels
First, it talks about an attempt to destroy the Ukrainian state. For this kafirs are trying to block its exports.
In addition, he seeks to make an unstable situation in the EU.For this, conditions are being created under which famine will spread throughout North Africa and the Middle East. Accordingly, more and more refugees will leave for Europe from there.
And hunger is also a way to spread a propaganda campaign against Ukraine. Like, it is our state that does not want to supply food. In fact, we all know that this is impossible due to the blockade of ports and mass mining.
When the food riots start and as the famine spreads, Russian propaganda will blame Ukraine and call for the recognition of Russia's territorial gains in Ukraine and the lifting of all sanctions, Snyder added.
Russia will starve Asians and Africans. And he will do this until he can win. This, Snyder is convinced, is a new level of colonialism, as well as the last chapter of the famine policy.
Head of the Office of the President Andriy Yermak spoke about this. He reacted to Timothy Snyder's suggestion and told what can be done now.
How to avoid a food crisis
- Before, Andriy Yermak noted the need for green corridors. He noted that Ukraine should receive conditions for unblocking ports. This will allow the export of grain.
- It is also necessary to provide ships with military convoys. And that's not all, because Ukraine should have anti-ship missiles.
- Besides, it is very important not to make concessions related to the sanctions. There can be no talk of any relaxation of them.
