Russia Doesn't Want This: What Benefit Can It Get from Killing Hamas Leader Natalia Belzetskaya

The leader of the Hamas group Ismail Haniyeh was liquidated in Tehran. In response, Iran promised to strike Israel and raised the “red flag of revenge,” which means war and bloodshed.

The head of the Center for Military-Legal Research, Alexander Musienko, told Channel 24, that there are several important elements to understand about Haniyeh's assassination. The first is that Iran's new president, Masoud Pezeshkian, was more moderate toward the West.

Who benefits from Haniyeh's assassination

Of course, there is no one in Iran who is friendly toward the United States or Israel. However, Masoud Pezeshkian was moderate, began to assemble a team, and may even have wanted to improve relations with the West.

There are two versions of the assassination. The first is that Israel, by eliminating the head of Hamas, resolved the issue of responsibility for the October 7 attack. This distances Iran from the West and their negotiations. But it strengthens the position of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, said Alexander Musienko.

The second version says that there are many radical Iranians who did not want to reconcile with the West. Therefore, they could have decided to commit murder. Moreover, they support Russia and want to develop relations with the aggressor country.

Now it will be more difficult for Iran to turn towards the West and this is not wanted inside the country. It is clear that those who did not want the “nuclear deal” between Iran and the West will benefit from this situation. It could have been Israel, which did not believe that the country was keeping its commitments, as well as Russia.

“Lifting sanctions will mean oil and gas production for Iran. With these products, the country will enter the market and compete with the Russians. It is clear that Russia does not want this, because this will mean lower prices,” Musienko emphasized.

Earlier, the White House reported that it was aware of Haniyeh's murder, but did not provide any other comments. Israel refrained from making any statements on the matter.
