Russia cut off gas supplies to Poland/Channel 24 Collage
Russia suspended gas supplies to Poland under the Yamal contract. The terrorist country has not yet explained its actions.
Stopping gas supplies
This is reported by several Polish media and the government of the country. Because of this situation, a meeting of the crisis management team was held at the Ministry of Climate and Environment of Poland.
Poland has the necessary gas reserves and supply sources that protect our security – we have been for years virtually independent of Russia. Our warehouses are 76% full. There will be no shortage of gas in Polish homes,” said Anna Moskva, Minister of Climate and Environment.
Since April, Poland has been actively reducing gas purchases from Russia, since its cost could be up to one and a half times higher than spot quotations. Under these conditions, Polish importers reduced the intake of gas from the Russian Federation and increased imports from spot sites from the western direction.
Possible reasons for the suspension of supplies
The Russians did not inform the Polish side about the reasons for the suspension of supplies. A possible reason for the cessation of gas supplies may be the issue of payment.
Recall that at the end of March, Putin signed a decree obliging Gazprom's foreign contractors to pay for Russian gas in rubles from April 1. The EU countries, except Hungary, did not agree with this.
The Polish state-owned gas company PGNiG notes that it has received a notification from Gazprom Export LLC that Russian gas supplies to Poland will completely stop on April 27 from 09:00.< /p>
Reaction in Ukraine
Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine Andriy Yermak called such actions of the Russians a typical increase in rates and avoidance of any rules and obligations.
The EU has repeatedly said that they will not pay for gas in rubles, since the signed contracts do not talk about payments in “wooden” currency. Russia is trying to split the unity of our allies. The Russian Federation also proves that energy resources are a weapon for them,” Yermak said.
Therefore, according to him, the European Union needs to be united and impose an embargo on Russia’s energy resources in order to deprive them of energy weapons.
