Russia could attack Ukraine with X-69 missiles to show off new weapons – media

During the massive missile attack on February 7, 2024, Russia could have used the new high-precision Kh-69 missile.

The War Zone writes about this.

So, earlier, one Ukrainian military blogger published a photograph in the Telegram application that allegedly depicted the wreckage of the X-69 — the picture shows one of the rear tails.

The X-account @war_monitor_ua, which tracks the actions of Russian military aviation, claims that on the night of February 7-8, three Kh-69 missiles were launched into Ukraine, as well as three Kh-59 missiles. Of these six missiles, five were shot down during attacks on the Poltava, Sumy and Nikolaev regions.

It is worth noting that the tail sections of the X-69 and X-59 look identical.

If it is confirmed that the missile fragment does indeed belong to the X-69, then its use in Ukraine indicates Russia's growing readiness to use new military weapons.

In September 2023, the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS) reported that the X-69 was undergoing flight testing, describing it as a cruise missile likely similar to the European Storm Shadow or Taurus KEPD 350 missiles.< /p>

What is known about the X-69

rocket

The X-69 cruise missile was originally conceived under a different name — X-59MK2. It was developed by the Raduga company, which is part of the Russian Tactical Missiles Corporation.

At the time of its introduction in 2009, the Kh-59MK2 was very similar to the Kh-59MK anti-ship missile. The main difference — This is a guidance system. The active radar seeker was replaced by an inertial navigation system in combination with GPS/GLONASS for mid-course data updates and an electro-optical digital interface correlation system (DSMAC) for approaching the target.

The new guidance system was borrowed from the X-555 cruise missile.

Probably the Kh-59MK2 was primarily intended for export. But there is no information yet whether anyone was able to buy this rocket.

But in 2015, the Kh-59MK2 missile was redesigned. The guidance system remained unchanged, and the missile itself received a trapezoidal box-shaped body. It was planned to place the missile in the fifth generation fighter Su-57.
