Russia and China are waiting for a surprise from NATO

This week NATO summit in Madrid updated defense strategy. In which (from what is known) Russia is defined as the greatest threat.

But I noted for myself another thing from public information – the draft document will for the first time also talk about threats from China . Very correct.

General problem

China and Russia in the long run are an interconnected part of the problem. I won’t be surprised if sanctions against China are introduced at the next step (so that the “soap bubble” in the form of the Russian economy bursts sooner).

China thought that it was possible to sit out in the position “between” – weak Russia (to help , but behind the scenes and slightly) and at the same time avoid Western sanctions, while using Russia as its vassal against the US and Europe. Everything is aimed at breaking the West.

But acting from behind the screen, and not directly. And then, when everything is done, you can clean up geopolitically one by one. Including Russia itself, in which it is not clear why they decided to switch from the logic of “they stole and got high” to the logic of “killed”.

The position of the West

But this will not work. The world is dividing, the diametricality of positions becomes clearer. This is clearly seen in Europe, when the same Germany (from the point of view of Germany itself) is going through a large-scale transformation of policy (defense, in particular).

If the West is united, China and Russia will not be able to endure this confrontation. No one has yet defeated the British. But here Russia and China (behind the screen) decided to break the parity by war (as it was in the 20th century).

About the newest strategy – a little later, closer to the summit. But, in general, it should have been adopted long ago.

The previous concept, developed under the leadership of Madeleine Albright, was adopted back in 2010 at the Lisbon summit. It reflected the challenges facing the Alliance at that time (the problem of terrorism, Afghanistan, the Balkans, the fight against piracy, in particular). There is even a phrase that “NATO seeks a true strategic partnership with the Russian Federation.”
