Currently, only one person lives in the village of Dolina in the Donetsk region. After the fighting, there was not a single surviving building left here, because Russian troops completely destroyed the settlement. All the local residents left here when heavy shelling began in May 2022.

ICTV Fakty journalist Vladislav Kruglov in his author's project ZNISHCHENE Rosiyu walked dangerous routes and showed what the village of Dolina in the Svyatogorsk community of Donetsk region looks like now.

What is happening now in the village of Dolina in Donetsk region

“I dreamed of becoming a journalist to see the world. But the war always brings me back here,” this is how Vladislav Kruglov began his story about the village of Dolina.

His home is an hour and a half drive away. Vladislav recalls that it was there that he spent the happiest years of his life and his childhood. But he has not been able to get home since February 2022, since his hometown of Rubizhne is under occupation.

— Russian biomass destroyed my city of Rubezhnoye, took away my relatives. Even all the photographs I had from childhood remained in the occupation. There are if not millions, then hundreds of thousands of stories like mine all over Ukraine, — the journalist noted.

The village of Dolina is located just 4 km from the administrative border of the Donetsk region with the Kharkiv region. Only the skeletons of houses remind us that life was in full swing here several years ago. In March 2022, about 800 people lived in Dolina.

— I didn’t choose the valley by chance. In 2022, the battle line for the Donetsk region passed here. The Russians were unable to capture the village, but they managed to “liberate” it from life. These ruins are like the scenery of an apocalyptic film. Unfortunately, this is a truly deserted and wiped-off-the-face settlement in eastern Ukraine, — the journalist noted.

ZNISHCHENE Rosiyeyu is an author's project by ICTV military correspondent Vladislav Kruglov. In each new episode, he will tell the stories of people, their cities and villages that suffered as a result of Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
