Specialists from the International Space Station (ISS) flight control group decided not to adjust the station's orbit due to the former US military satellite BRICSat-2, which flies in space like space debris. The threat of a possible collision has passed, the press service of Roscosmos commented to TASS.
The state corporation noted that, according to data from the ASPOS OKP system (JSC TsNIIMash, part of Roscosmos), which controls near-earth space, the former US satellite does not pose a threat to the ISS.
On September 12, Roskosmos reported that the station needed to make a maneuver in order to evade a dangerous object. “On September 14, 2020, at 02:23 Moscow time, the approach of the International Space Station with an American military satellite is predicted. The likelihood of convergence is 3.47E-04, ”the publication said.
The BRICSat-2 satellite was launched by SpaceX's Falcon Heavy rocket into low-earth orbit in 2019.
