In the northern Serbian city of Novi Sad, the outer roof of the railway station collapsed. There are dead and injured as a result of the collapse.

Several bodies have already been freed from under the rubble. This was reported by 24 Kanal, citing the Serbian TV channel Nova.

At least 14 people have died

There are currently 14 known dead. Their bodies have been pulled out from under the rubble.

There are also injured people as a result of the collapse. Among them is a man who is in serious condition: his leg was amputated. Three women were also taken to the hospital in critical condition.

Before that, rescuers managed to save a 14-year-old girl. She was taken away by ambulance.

Among the injured, in addition to the Serbs, there is also a citizen of North Macedonia. The identities of five people have not yet been established.

According to witnesses, there were many people under the roof at the time of the tragedy. The death toll is likely to rise.

At least 80 rescuers are working at the scene.

This train station, by the way, was only opened in July 2024. Before that, it was under reconstruction for 3 years, which was carried out by a Chinese contractor. Construction work was still ongoing at the station.

The reconstruction was carried out by a Chinese company, the price of the entire project remained a secret, and the building itself was ceremonially opened several times, the last time on July 5 of this year, writes Nova.

Saturday, November 2, was declared a Day of Mourning in Serbia for the fallen citizens.

“This is one of the hardest days in the post-war history of Novi Sad. This is a terrible tragedy,” said Serbian Prime Minister Vucević.
