Romania scrambled F-16 fighter jets again after Russian UAV attack Darya Smorodskaya

Romania had to raise military aircraft to monitor the security situation. The skies over the country were monitored due to a Russian UAV attack on neighboring Ukraine.

This was reported by 24 Channel with reference to the Romanian Ministry of Defense. This happened on the night of January 29, when the Russian army once again launched kamikaze drones.

Russian UAVs were approaching the Romanian border

At about 03:20 in the morning, near the border of Ukraine and Romania, monitoring systems noticed drones that were moving in the direction of the country. The Romanian Defense Ministry responded to the threat by scrambling two F-16 aircraft, which are part of the Air Police Combat Service.

The aircraft took off from the 86th Air Base in Borcea to inspect the airspace. After two hours of monitoring, the aircraft returned to their base.

The ministry says that on Thursday, at around 3:20 a.m., two F-16 aircraft of the Romanian Air Force, part of the Air Police Combat Service, took off to monitor the air situation. The aircraft returned to base about two hours later.

The National Military Command Center (Core) informed the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations about the introduction of alert measures for the population in the Chilia Veche area. As a result, at 3:05 a.m., a RO-Alert message was transmitted, and at 4:08 a.m., the termination of alert activities in the specified area was announced, the department reported.

Radar reconnaissance did not record the crossing of the border by drones that were seen in Ukrainian airspace.

Work with the risks due to Russian attacks and threats to Romania continues. Allies are also receiving information about the situation caused by the attacks.

The Romanian Ministry of National Defense firmly condemns the Russian aggression against civilian and infrastructure facilities in Ukraine.

This is not the first time Romania has declared a UAV alert

The last time an air raid alert was declared in border settlements due to Russian drones was on the night of January 17. Then the country also raised F-16 fighters, because there was a danger of a drone crashing on the Romanian coast.

And in September, a Russian “Shahed” crossed the border and entered Romanian airspace. The aircraft began intercepting the drone, which was moving towards the settlement of Nevodari. Later, Romania reported a group of UAVs over the country.
