Rocket attacks on the mall in Kremenchug may be considered in The Hague/Collage of Channel 24
On June 27, the Russians launched a missile attack on the mall in Kremenchug. A war crime striking in its cynicism can be considered in The Hague.
Now a search and rescue operation is underway on the spot. It is important to collect as much evidence as possible in order to bring the perpetrators to justice.
The Kremenchuk tragedy is not just a war crime, it is a crime against humanity – a massive testament to the Kremlin's systematic policy of killing civilians in Ukraine. A completely civilian object, a deliberate missile attack by the Russian Federation on a crowd of people, – said the Prosecutor General of Ukraine Irina Venediktova.
The guilty must be punished
To date, rescuers have managed to dismantle more than 60% of the rubble. Active investigative actions continue, involving prosecutors from the Office of the Prosecutor General, the regional prosecutor's office, police and SBU investigators. According to Venediktova, international experts from the Atrocity Crimes Advisory Group and military experts are working at the site of the tragedy.
“Every fragment of a rocket, every piece of evidence is important and must be documented according to the highest standards of international humanitarian law, because this case can go not only to the national court, but also become the subject of consideration in The Hague,” the Prosecutor General of Ukraine said.
In addition, law enforcement officers must establish why the public facility was not evacuated during the air raid. “If there was negligence here, they should be held accountable for it,” Venediktova added.
The Prosecutor General recalled that in no case should you ignore the sirens, because the enemy is insidiously hitting civilian targets – schools, kindergartens, hospitals and residential areas. Remember that going to shelter on an air raid signal is a chance to save your life.
