The Ukrainian government has entered into a contract with the German concern Rheinmetall for the supply of Leopard 1 systems, including 25 Leopard 1A5 main battle tanks, five armored recovery vehicles (Bergepanzer 2) and two driver training tanks.

The order, which is funded by Germany and costs several million euros, also includes training, logistics, spare parts, maintenance and other support services.

Delivery should take place in 2024. The Leopard 1 systems are currently undergoing a major overhaul and are being prepared for use at the Rheinmetall plants in Unterlüs and Kassel.
“Thus, Rheinmetall continues to support Ukraine with constant supplies of tactical vehicles. Previously, the concern received the task of supplying Ukraine with eighty Marder infantry fighting vehicles. Most of them are already in the country where they have proven their reliability in ongoing operations, it said.
It is indicated that Rheinmetall is also ready to supply twenty more Marder infantry fighting vehicles as soon as it receives the corresponding order.
At the end of 2023 – beginning of 2024, Ukraine will also receive five Caracal airmobiles. In addition, on behalf of the governments of the Netherlands and Denmark, next year the concern will supply Ukraine with fourteen Leopard 2A4 tanks.
Earlier, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius confirmed plans to increase military assistance to Ukraine next year to 8 billion euros.
