A Ukrainian company will open a joint venture with the German defense concern Rheinmetall to meet Ukraine's ammunition needs.

The Rheinmetall concern announced this following the results of the signed agreement within the framework of the Munich Security Conference (MSC).

The press service indicates that the plant will be able to produce “six-digit quantities” 155-mm ammunition every year, and the Rheinmetall concern itself will own 51% of the shares of the new company, when will the remaining 49% go to the Ukrainian business partner.

New the enterprise will be located in Ukraine, indicate Rheinmetall.

— The demand for ammunition in many countries is huge — first of all, of course, in Ukraine. Our intention to create another joint venture underscores our support for Ukraine. This joint venture will make a vital contribution to the country's ability to defend itself — and therefore to the security of all of Europe, — said Rheinmetall CEO Armin Papperger.

In the photo you can see how Rheinmetall was represented by Papperger himself during the signing of the contract, and when the Ukrainian side was represented by the Minister of Strategic Industry of Ukraine Alexander Kamyshin.

Rheinmetall expands

Today, the Rheinmetall concern is the largest defense ammunition manufacturer in the world. Moreover, thanks to the efforts of the German government, and in connection with the Russian-Ukrainian war, the company regularly increases its weapons production capacity.

Not long ago, Rheinmetall laid the foundation for another new enterprise in Germany, which will also specialize in the production of ammunition. It was stated that the capacity of the new production complex would be about 200 thousand ammunition per year. Their production will begin next year.

Note that this is not the first time the Ukrainian government has collaborated with Rheinmetall. Thus, in October 2023, Ukroboronprom and the German defense concern launched their first joint plant in Kyiv. Its purpose is to service and repair Western equipment.
