Ukraine was preparing for a full-scale war with Russia, although at the official level the threat of a Russian invasion was downplayed. At the beginning of the war, Ukraine managed to withdraw military units so that they would not suffer from Russian attacks.
Ukraine managed to withdraw its forces from under the blow
Ukrainian Defense Minister Oleksiy Reznikov spoke about tactics that were part of a set of protocols developed during top-secret planning ahead of the invasion.
According to him, the main ploy was to announce “normal” military exercises by analogy with Russian and Belarusian in the first weeks of February.
As Reznikov explained, the “exercises” allowed Ukraine to disperse the military. Therefore, after Russian strikes, our military with weapons were ready to fight back in different parts of Ukraine.
This was the reason that allowed us to secretly withdraw our military units from their places of permanent deployment. When the strikes followed, our guys were not all together in one place, but were ready with weapons, ammunition and scattered around the country,” the Minister of Defense said.
According to The Economist, Ukraine prepared other surprises For Russia. In particular, they managed to hide air defense systems and attack aircraft, replacing them with mock-ups.
