Defense Minister Alexei Reznikov went to Paris. In the French capital, he is to meet with President Emmanuel Macron to discuss the transfer of F-16 fighters.
As noted in the publication, this will happen against the backdrop of debate among Ukraine's allies. Some states still doubt whether it is worth transferring fighters to our troops in order to more successfully resist Russia on the battlefield.
Reznikov insists on fighters
< p>It is known that the adviser to the Minister of Defense Alexei Reznikov on Friday, January 27, said that Ukrainewill insist on fourth-generation Western fighters. That is exactly what the F-16 is. Discussing this topic with partners became easier after the decision to transfer the Leopard and Abrams tanks.
And while the United States is categorically not ready to take such a step, other allied countries do not see anything anomalous in this. So, France and Poland seem ready to satisfy any request from Ukraine, the publication notes. Moreover, Macron told reporters the day before that “by definition, nothing is excluded” when talking about military assistance.
At the same time, he noted that any step to transfer weapons depends on a number of factors. Among these arethe need to avoid escalation. In addition, Ukraine must guarantee that the plane “does not touch Russian soil.”
We add that Reznikov will also meet with his colleague Sebastien Leccorne during his visit to Paris.
How many fighters are needed Ukraine
- Let's start with the Ukrainian military flying Soviet planes. And they, as noted by the speaker of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Yuriy Ignat, are already on the verge of possibility. So our country is in dire need for Western-made aircraft.
- According to him, the F-16 has been talked about since the first days of a full-scale invasion. But you should also remember about other types of aircraft. At the same time, he noted that 5 brigades would be enough for our state to protect in the future. Although, he suggested, no one will give us that much.
- Military expert Roman Svitan noted thatUkraine needs at least 2 air brigades from the F-16.The peculiarity of these aircraft is that that they are a flying platform, a 4-in-1 multirole fighter that can perform a range of missions.
