Since the Slovak government did not join the Czech initiative to purchase 800 thousand artillery shells for Ukraine, the country's democratic forces decided to support the Ukrainian army and launched a campaign to raise funds for ammunition. At the moment, €2.5 million has already been collected.
This was announced on the air of the One News telethon Marian Kulich — founder of the organization Peace to Ukraine, which raises funds in Slovakia.
Slovaks raise funds for shells for Ukraine
— We launched our campaign, we wanted to express how disappointed the people of Slovakia are with their government, which met with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in Bratislava. We sent a signal that we want to support Ukraine in financing weapons and also send a signal to our government that we do not agree with them, — he explained.
They are watching now
According to him, at first they collected €260 thousand and planned to immediately donate it to a Czech charity, but after 40 hours they had the first million, and now — €2.5 million
— We saw how successful this gathering is, that all people in Slovakia with democratic views want to join. This is a very powerful message from people — noted Kulich.
He says that the funds collected will be spent on the purchase of shells, but the collection will continue “until Ukraine has to fight”.
— We will continue this as long as possible, we will send these funds to the Czech government so that it purchases shells for Ukraine, — he summed up.
Despite the fact that more than 20 countries joined the Czech initiative to purchase ammunition for Kyiv, the Slovak government decided not to take part in it, since, as officials from the Slovak government argued, the conflict “has no military solution” and “sending weapons to Ukraine means only prolonging the war.”
