And these narratives began to be used in preparation for the war with Ukraine. Denis Kazansky told how the stories about “Bandera supporters” appeared in the temporarily occupied territories of Donetsk and Luhansk regions. A Ukrainian journalist and blogger from Donetsk said this on Channel 24.
In fact, our local regionals began to inflate and promote this narrative, Donbass elites. Kazansky said.
According to him, this story began with a political confrontation, when the notional “Donetsk” tried to seize power in Ukraine.
And when Yanukovych ran for president for the first time and competed with Yushchenko, political technologists created this myth about “Bandera's people who want to conquer the Donbass and destroy its industry.”
“And in order to attract the votes of their base electorate, they had to mobilize it,” the journalist added.
How to achieve this? It was necessary to create the impression that the Donbass is such a fortress that is under siege. And then create the image of a dangerous “enemy”, often fictional (such were the inhabitants of the West of Ukraine). In this way, to intimidate the people of Donetsk.

Kazansky on the fate of Donbass and Crimea
