The Ambassador of the European Union to Ukraine Katarina Maternova is convinced that our state can become a full member of the EU before 2030.

She told about this on the air of the national telethon to the special correspondent of the international department of the ICTV Facts program Natalya Lutsenko.

Maternova gave a forecast of similar dates last year. She emphasized that her optimism has not changed since then.

— I remember our conversation. This was even before the decision of the European Council on negotiations with Ukraine. I'm sure this is a realistic time frame — emphasized the ambassador.

The correspondent noted that already in March Ukraine is expecting a negotiating framework on its accession to the EU, and asked the diplomat what this process will look like in practice.

— The negotiation framework is being prepared by the European Commission. Its essence is in the powers that EU countries give to the European Commission for negotiations with Ukraine, that is, this framework should outline the powers for negotiations, — Maternova told.

She explained that there are two stages: submission of the document by the European Commission, and then its approval by the 27 EU states. Negotiations on Ukraine's accession to the EU can start only after the completion of the second stage.

EU Negotiating Framework for Ukraine

The website of the European Commission states that the draft negotiating framework for Ukraine is based on the experience of previous decisions and takes into account the development of EU legislation.

The document for Ukraine includes three parts. Among them: the principles governing negotiations on membership in the European Union, as well as the content and procedure of negotiations on accession to the EU.
