British intelligence has published a fresh assessment of Russian losses after the invasion of Ukraine. The department noted that the enemy could have lost up to 350 thousand of its soldiers.

At the same time, British intelligence noted that the Kremlin does not understand the level of its losses. They are used to rewriting the numbers of their own dead and wounded soldiers.

British intelligence assessed Russian losses at the front

British intelligence reported that official Russian MoD forces were likely to suffer significant losses between 24 February 2022 and November 2023. They estimate that approximately 180,000 to 240,000 Russian troops were injured, and approximately 50,000 more were killed.

In addition, the department believes that the mercenaries of the private military company Wagner also suffered heavy losses, approximately 40 thousand wounded and 20 thousand killed.

Taking these figures into account, the total losses of the Russian side, according to representatives of the British department, range from 220 to 280 thousand wounded and about 70 thousand killed. Thus, the total number of Russian soldiers affected by these losses is estimated to range from 290 to 350 thousand people. The median of this range is estimated at 320 thousand, which reflects the total losses of the Russian side.

Notably, British intelligence stressed that even among Russian officials there was likely to be limited understanding of the true scale of the losses. This is due to an ancient culture of inaccurate reporting within the military.

Russia has insane losses at the front

• The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine said on December 4 that over the past 24 hours the Russian army has lost another 770 of its soldiers. This brings the total number of casualties to 332,810.
