< strong _ngcontent-sc88="">The notorious ex-president of Italy Silvio Berlusconi has lost contact with his friend Vladimir Putin. Berlusconi said that Putin does not get in touch with him.

Berlusconi called Putin twice on the phone

Berlusconi, who visited the occupied Crimea in 2015 and, together with Putin, illegally uncorked a 240-year-old bottle of wine, said that tried to talk to the Russian dictator.

The former Italian prime minister told reporters that he tried to talk to Putin in person twice after the start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. But the President of Russia did not answer him.

I made two phone calls (to Putin – channel 24) at the beginning of this “operation” and received no answer. Therefore, after that, I refrained from further attempts, – said the former head of the Italian government.

Berlusconi added that he and the Russian president were once very good friends.

At the same time, Putin recently answered calls from the current Italian prime minister, Mario Draghi. But, unfortunately, the conversation with the Russian dictator did not bring any benefit. The head of the Italian government said that he did not see glimpses of peace.

Berlusconi's position on Russian aggression

  • Berlusconi and Putin continued to communicate after the Italian politician left office in 2011 Prime Minister of Italy. Both have repeatedly stated that they have friendly relations.
  • Russian media reports that the last official telephone conversation between Putin and Berlusconi took place in September 2021, when the Italian was celebrating his birthday. In addition, Putin congratulated Berlusconi, along with the current and former heads of other states, on New Year and Christmas in December 2021.
  • In mid-April, Berlusconi spoke for the first time about the Russian invasion of Ukraine. He said he was disappointed with Putin's behavior and noted that Russian aggression had brought Russia into the hands of China.
  • At the end of May, the former Italian prime minister made a scandalous statement. He said that Europe should make an effort to get Ukraine to accept Putin's demands.
