Putin “will fail”: Russian leadership's statements on negotiations clearly show one thing Angela Figin

Vladimir Putin suddenly declared that Russia is ready for negotiations on Ukraine. At the same time, the head of the Kremlin called on the “sponsors of the Kyiv regime” to force Vladimir Zelensky to lift the ban on dialogue with Russia, saying that this makes possible negotiations illegitimate.

Political scientist Igor Reiterovich explained to Channel 24 what all the statements about negotiations that have been made in Russia recently indicate. By the way, the Presidential Office believes that the Russian dictator is trying to promote the idea of negotiations with the United States.

What Putin Finally Understood

One-on-one negotiations with the United States without Ukraine and Europe are impossible. Putin probably understood this too, and that is why he made a statement about lifting Ukraine's ban on negotiations with Russia.

However, even here the Kremlin dictator decided to manipulate, because Ukraine has a ban on negotiations with Putin, not with Russia. And that is a big difference, – Reiterovich noted.

According to him, for some time the Kremlin will actively promote the thesis of direct negotiations with the United States and the desire to divide the world into two. Perhaps Donald Trump would like to resolve everything quickly one-on-one, but he is not that naive and understands that this is impossible to do, given the nature of the war itself.

Russia's attempts to sew the general theme of some kind of relationship with the United States and the creation of a new security architecture into the unleashing of the Russian-Ukrainian war should not work either. This is the logic of a terrorist and a hostage.

Now it looks like Russia, having started the war, is holding all of Europe and Ukraine hostage and telling the United States that it will let them go if we agree on something. There should be a fairly tough reaction here, the political scientist said.

The West has already made many steps towards meeting him. In particular, Trump has directly said that he is ready to meet and talk with Putin. According to Reiterovich, this is a colossal opportunity and a favor for Putin, but if he does not take advantage of it, then the US president will have to launch a long plan that involves forcing Russia to negotiate and ending the war.

What is Russia's logic regarding negotiations

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that if the US under Trump takes into account Russia's interests, then the dialogue between Moscow and Washington will gradually be restored, if not, everything will remain as is.

Lavrov also said that Moscow does not see real actions from Kyiv and the West indicating a readiness for peace talks. According to him, Russia is against freezing the “Ukrainian conflict”, because it will be used by the West to arm Kyiv and try to take revenge.

Russia had to somehow respond to Trump's ultimatum. They did it, but it turned out very awkwardly. The Kremlin does not know what response would be acceptable both for the domestic Russian user and for Trump, – Reiterovich noted.

In particular, he drew attention not to Putin's words, because here the dictator plays the role of a good cop, but to the statements of the Deputy Minister of Russian Foreign Affairs Sergei Ryabkov. He said that if the United States wants to negotiate something based on the principles they have voiced, then we will not agree on anything.

The logic is that the United States is proposing conditions that are supposedly unacceptable to Russia, and the Kremlin is pretending that they have not heard anything concrete and therefore have nothing to talk about. In reality, this is simply a stalling for time, since Trump is gradually forming a scenario, and Russia has nothing even close to that.
