Russia started blackmailing Iran with demands for military assistance. Added to this is the problem with the nuclear agreement. The whole situation may indirectly affect Ukraine.

Alexander Musienko, head of the Center for Military Legal Research, told Channel 24 about this. According to him, the Russians have a long-standing relationship with Iran – it has been supplying weapons there for a long time in circumvention of sanctions. In particular, it is known about surface-to-air missiles for air defense systems.

Earlier there was even information that a Ukrainian plane near Tehran in 2020 was shot down with the help of Russian missiles. However, this data has not yet been confirmed.

Russia wants Iran to “repay its debts”

All these demands come against the backdrop of problems with an agreement under which Tehran was to curtail its nuclear program in exchange for lifting sanctions. It was signed in 2015, and subsequently US President Donald Trump withdrew from the agreements. Joe Biden is ready to return to the agreement, but first Iran must fulfill the obligation not to enrich uranium by more than 3.67%.

According to Musienko, if the US and other states do resume the nuclear agreement, Iran will be able to sell its own oil and gas to foreign markets. Accordingly, due to the increase in supply, the price of these energy carriers will decrease.

In addition, Iran will be able to export oil, for example, to India, which is now actively buying it from Russia. Together, this will reduce the revenue to the aggressor's budget.

“I think that Russia is now beginning to actively blackmail Iran. Like, repay debts for the fact that we seem to have supported you under sanctions for so many years. At the same time, Russia is starting to impose demands on drones, which the United States knows about. This is clearly not increases reputation and reputation” . Iran in the eyes of the signatories of the relevant agreement. Therefore, this is a kind of basis,” Musienko believes.

That is why Iran is now in a kind of stretching. On the one hand, they understand that the entire agreement may not be successful and the sanctions will not be lifted. On the other hand, they are afraid to lose Russia, which they consider their partner. Therefore, Iran is trying to balance back and forth.

They are trying to find a balance. But they do it a little stupidly. As if the Russians are ready to transfer weapons, and as if they are trying not to withdraw from the negotiation process with the EU and the United States on a nuclear agreement,” Musienko said.

Recall, on July 11, US national security adviser Jake Sullivan said that Iran was going to provide Russia with several hundred combat drones and organizes training for the occupiers.
