A convicted killer who killed at least four people and ate the flesh of one of his victims has been pardoned by Russian President Vladimir Putin, allowing him to join Russian troops fighting in Ukraine.
According to Newsweek, the pardon of Denis Gorin, reported by Russian-language Telegram channels, follows reports that the Satanist, sentenced to two decades for cannibalism, was also freed to take part in a full-scale invasion of Ukrainian territory.
Russia has reportedly been recruiting military personnel from prisons for months, waiving prison sentences in exchange for participation in the war in Ukraine. According to British defense officials, this policy has intensified in recent months.

At least 17 people who committed murders have been pardoned to participate in fighting in Ukraine in 2022 and 2023, the Russian news agency Agency reports.
Gorin, 44, a native of the town of Aniva in the far eastern Sakhalin region, was convicted three times of murder, the first time in 2003. Seven years later he was released on parole, during which time he fatally stabbed the brother of the man he was on remand with.
According to the investigation, he admitted that he cut off the legs of the corpse, which he washed, put in the refrigerator and ate, the Sibir.Realii portal reports.
Gorin was also convicted of other murders in 2011 and 2012, which he committed along with his brother, and was sentenced in 2018 to 22 years in prison. However, the Sakhalin Against War Telegram channel reported that he was now “freed from the colony and went to war.”

The message on his Telegram channel was posted next to a photo he posted on social media wearing a military uniform with the Z war symbol on his sleeve.
This happened after Putin pardoned Nikolai Ogolobyak, a member of a gang of Satanists from the city of Yaroslavl. In 2008, the gang killed and dismembered four teenagers.
